On a Saturday evening, the city lights up, and the real action moves to the sky. London’s rooftop bars offer a mix of panoramic views, craft cocktails, and a vibe that feels both exclusive and approachable. If you’ve ever wondered where to escape the street noise and sip a drink that feels like a private cocktail in a glass, keep reading.
1. The Shard’s Sky Bar – 40 Floors of London
Located on the 31st floor of The Shard, the Sky Bar’s signature drink, the “Shards”, is a 40‑oz glass of chilled Champagne topped with a splash of orange liqueur. The view stretches from the Thames to the Royal Albert Hall. The bar opens at 5 p.m. every Friday and Saturday, and the last call is at 2 a.m. Reservations are recommended; a quick call to the concierge books a table in about 10 minutes. The only downside? The entrance fee of £30 covers a 30‑minute lounge period, so if you plan to stay longer, you’ll need to pay an extra £5 per hour.
2. The Rooftop at The Ned – Classic Elegance
The Ned’s roof terrace has a 12‑year‑old glasshouse that feels like a secret garden. Their signature “Ned Tini” is a gin‑based cocktail with a hint of elderflower that takes 15 minutes to prepare, but the taste makes it worth the wait. The terrace is free to enter, but the bar opens at 6 p.m. and closes at midnight. It can get crowded by 10 p.m.; arriving earlier secures a good spot. The only limitation is that the bar is not wheelchair accessible, which may be a concern for guests with mobility issues.
3. The Roof – A Contemporary Twist
Situated above the Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square, The Roof offers a 360‑degree view of the city. Their “Trinity Sunset” is a mix of bourbon, honey syrup, and a twist of citrus. The bar’s opening hours are 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends. A unique feature is the “Sky Lounge” ticket that grants priority seating for £20 per person. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, the lounge is the best choice. However, the ticket can sell out in less than an hour during peak summer nights.
4. The Rooftop at The Tower Hotel – The Iconic View
On the 5th floor of The Tower Hotel, the rooftop offers an unobstructed view of the Tower Bridge. Their “Bridge Breeze” is a refreshing mix of vodka, cucumber, and lime. The bar opens at 5 p.m. and stays open until 2 a.m. on Saturdays. The only hiccup? The bar’s Wi‑Fi is spotty, so if you plan to stream a game or video, you might need to rely on your phone’s hotspot. On Sundays, the bar closes earlier, at 9 p.m., which may catch you off guard if you’re planning a late night out.

5. The Roof at The Shard – A Night of Jazz
For those who love live music, The Shard’s roof hosts a weekly jazz night every Friday. The set starts at 8 p.m., and the first drink is complimentary if you arrive before 7 p.m. The only caveat is that the bar is closed on public holidays, so plan your trip accordingly. The jazz performers are usually local talents, giving the venue an authentic feel.
